Nostalgic for Nature

 Hey Everyone!

We’ve been back from our Colorado trip for a month now and I’m already feeling nostalgic for nature.

I’d like to share some facts about one of my favorite organisms of the Rockies, Populus tremuloides. Or, the Quaking Aspen. They get their name from the manner in which their leaves move in the wind.

These are one of the most fascinating organisms I have ever heard of. Here’s why: many of these trees are actually one organism known as a clonal colony. They grow roots that jump up through the surface and grow into genetically identical trees.

There is one Aspen in Utah named Pando that has been estimated to be a clonal colony of 47,000 trees at an astounding age of 10,000 years old. I cannot even begin to wrap my mind around that.

Here is one of the tiny runner roots from a neighboring tree. These little guys are everywhere.

On the other side of the mountain, the same organism could possibly grow. Considering they’ve been growing for thousands of years, what else can they do but expand?

I’m glad my botany educated, soon to be husband was there to teach me the wonder of our surroundings. I learned so much about botany this trip, it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite nerd hobbies.

I hope my fascination with this amazing organism is shared!

Welcome to Yea Yea Pueblo!

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to Yea Yea Pueblo. I kind of out grew the old big grid ways on blogspot so I thought I’d spice things up a bit and drop the .blogspot and the dark settings I had previously. You should now be redirected to YeaYeaPueblo.com. Brighter, and cheerful in appearance!

I chose Yea Yea Pueblo, well because it was the first thing that popped into my head. And the header photo is of beautiful Pecos, NM. One of my favorite places to backpack. So fun!

Anyways, Yea Yea Pueblo is just one thing I’ve been working on tonight. Check out these little girls:

I’m going to embroider them tomorrow with work related inspiration. They’re to decorate my new cubicle. I was recently promoted and now work in another department at the office. I love it! My new colleagues are hilarious!

What better way to reward myself for the promotion than to craft something nifty for the change of scenery? And to buy myself a new tripod? (Like how I snuck that one in there?)

The big embroidery ring will say “Cubicle Sweet Cubicle” feel free to use that. Now I need to find my tailor chalk.

Also, who wants to Martha up my fabric basket? It needs some TLC!

Recent Literature

Hey Everyone,

I’ve passed so much time with my kindle since Christmas I thought I’d share a few of the page turners I’ve read.

Currently reading:

I was intrigued an episode of This American Life and the story of Tony in Broadmoore, a hospital for the criminally insane in the UK. He feigned madness to get in a “cushy” hospital in an attempt to avoid a lengthy prison sentence. Now he can’t convince anyone he is sane. I love psychology!
Recently finished Room which is a NY Times Best Seller. I now know why. Must read!
More Psychology: Portia’s memoir outlines her struggle with an both her sexuality and eating disorder. A little vain, but still very interesting.
BOSSYPANTS! I could NOT put this book down. It was like crack. Let’s make the funniest woman in the world rich, buy her book!

Face blindness? That’s a real thing! I heard about this book on NPR (where I get most of my literary reviews) and had to read it. It was very interesting to hear about a very rare facial recognition disorder.
Well, if you like all things psychological and funny this is the list for you.
Happy Reads!
