Oh, The Humanity!

The first half of this weekend was nothing short of rewarding. Since I ditched the microwave I had to learn how to make popcorn the old fashioned way. Yep, stove top. I have an infallible weakness for kettle corn, so really I had no choice but to learn how to pop my own. I have some work to do on it, but I’m on the right trail!

This weekend I coordinated a work-related volunteer event. As a Volunteer Committee Member, I really needed to have something done during the year 2011 to be proud of. Today my coworkers and I spent the day working for Habitat for Humanity. It was a great experience! Although, I’m still trying to figure out how to get all the paint off my hands. Harsh remedies need not apply.

After the event, it rained and it poured. It was nice to relax at home in the ambiance of a rain storm.

It’s still raining, but tomorrow is certainly looking bright.

Here Comes the Sun

Things are looking a bit different around here. After meditating long and hard about the trajectory of my life, I elected to come upon the new horizon as a single female. With that comes some changes, here are a few of the lighthearted ones:

Gone are the old throw pillows, here to stay are the Ikea down pillows. Just what the doctor ordered!
And me thinks I’ll be needing a new couch soon too.

New stockpot to streamline the stove top. I made spaghetti squash this week, it was delicious. I got rid of my microwave too. I hope to never replace it. Cluttered kitchen, no more!
This is an old friend’s tandem bike. Even when we were together I was too tall to ride on the back. It got a nice face lift since the last time I saw it. Amazing what a coat of paint and some elbow grease can accomplish. I think I’ll follow suit around my house.

Regardless of what projects I want to take on, I’m trying to spend a lot of time away from the house. My goal in the next few months is to put myself back on the path of continued learning to challenge my perceptions of the world. Translation: I want to go to festivals, film screenings, concerts, museums and restaurants.
This was a great start; I had a great time at Woofstock 2011.

I picked up a new field guide to the North American Prairie. Fifteen year old me had no way of knowing that 25 year old me would pick up books on flora and fauna for fun!

Time to rekindle those long lasting friendships! Tonight Jay and I will be cooking a nice butternut squash lasagna dinner. We’re once again in the same boat…good thing it’s always the fun boat.

The future is bright, folks. Cheers!

Autumn Love

Fall has finally arrived and I foresee a great many things to come:

I foresee the need for bigger pots and a valence. My succulents are growing fantastically. We’ll need to prepare them for winter soon.

I anticipate pot roast. With these farmer’s market ingredients, Todd’s recipes are unstoppable. I’ll contribute by making my almost famous butternut squash lasagna rolls.

I expect greatness. Exacted by the tunes that come from my record player. May the music set the mood.

My cool weather prayers have been answered. Let it snow.

Cool nights out on the town with buddies, cheers to that. And many more.

Love, love, love. All you need is love.

Creativity; let the autumn be filled with it! I’m so excited that fall is here once again. The summer was one of the harshest I can remember which makes me all the more grateful for the cooler weather. We’ve already had some lovely rain, cloudy skies, and brisk nights. May those continue through the end of the year. Cheers to another wonderful cool weather season!

Happy Autumn!
