White Chocolate Chip and Pistachio Cookies

The advent candles on our table have been melting down, week by week, in anticipation of Christmas. After dinner and discussion, we read aloud our nightly advent prayer. Then I secretly add on a prayer request for less judgement in my heart, because those ritualistic purple and pink candles on the wreath are totally cramping my style.

Yes, it’s Christmastime again.  White Chocolate Chip & Pistachio Cookies via Yea Yea Pueblo White Chocolate Chip & Pistachio Cookies via Yea Yea Pueblo Christmas cards have been mailed out, icicle lights hang gleefully from our front elevation, and hints of cinnamon and pine waft fragrantly through the home. This is such a nice time of year, but experiencing it in Alaska is very different from winter in Bakersfield, CA. Aside from the obvious difference in temperature and snowfall, the sun is showing up for less than four hours a day, hanging only as high on the horizon as a two story building down the street. Crock Pot Taco Chili

Crock Pot Taco Chili

Well, winter has officially arrived in Fairbanks. We had 6+ inches of snow this last weekend, with an additional 3-6″ more forecasted for today. There are few things I enjoy more than watching fluffy snowflakes drift downward from the sky from the cozy comfort of my living room. After a day of snow-gazing and snow-shoveling, a warm bowl of spicy chili really hits the spot.

Around here, we eat Taco Salad and this Taco Chili at least once a week. We can’t get enough of it! This Crock Pot Taco Chili recipe is made with pantry and produce staples, and kept light by using ground turkey instead of ground beef. It’s the ultimate comfort food,  and once you see how easy it is to make, it may become a weekly go-to recipe for you as well.

Wild Blackberry Swirl Ice Cream

Wild Blackberry Swirl Ice Cream | Yea Yea Pueblo

Wild Blackberry Swirl Ice Cream | Yea Yea Pueblo

I’m assuming that the dry summer weather caused a smaller yield in Washington’s Wild Blackberries than it did last year because as I paced the perimeter of a few blackberry bushes near the local dog park, I saw that the majority of the fruit had dried out. Or the smaller-than-average crop meant perhaps other like-minded people had harvested the bushes before I had.
